Restore Nature Now and my local Lib Dem candidate

Yesterday morning I sent this e-mail to our local Lib Dem candidate. For more on the march, see:

Restore Nature Now – Animal Wild

Dear Mr Dillon,

Thank you for your various newsletters, leaflets and hand-written letter. Anything but a repeat of (any of) the last 14 years is the main thing. My natural instincts are to vote Green but I understand that voting for you is the best chance of getting rid of the Tories. I attended the Restore Nature Now march in London on Saturday and would be interested in the Lib Dem response to it. You have said that you will sort out the water companies, which is great, but is there a real will to put climate, animal welfare and environmental priorities first? Making polluters pay would be a good example, as would ending factory farming and animal experimentation, which could not be done overnight, and ending fox hunting and the badger cull, which could. Shutting down the pheasant industry would also be a huge positive step for wildlife and, of course, pheasants, which, as I am sure you know, are battery-farmed in their millions so that they can be released and shot for ‘fun’. Would you make snares illegal as they are in Wales and Scotland? A Right to Roam as exists in Scotland is something I would also strongly favour. I am no spring chicken but young people I know are terrified of the future, suffer from constant eco-anxiety and in some cases have decided not to bring children into the world so as not to burden the planet further.

I will be posting this e-mail on my blog (animalwild.blog) and hope I may have permission also to post your reply, to which I look forward.

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes,

Julian Rota
