Every hour or so a solitary wasp finds its way into the summerhouse. I carefully put them outside. There is no doubt that they are annoying, but I was quite pleased with this image. I have an as yet unread whole book about wasps but I admit it is not at the top of the pile. I don’t know what kind of wasp this: there are over 200 species in the UK alone. Worldwide around 30,000 species have been identified, but there are likely to be many more. They do play a role in the ecosystem as pollinators, scavengers and predators.
